My Unconventional Journey to MLM Success Part 1: From Monkhood to Martial Arts
Early Life and Spiritual Calling
You may find this a little surprising, but I actually left home at the rather tender age of 9. Of course, my mum was beside herself with worry, but I somehow managed to convince her it was for the best.
Through the association of some exceptional, wise, and much older friends who genuinely cared for me, I was drawn to the spiritual pursuit of understanding the meaning of this worldly experience, the true goal of life, and what death represents (more on this as we get better acquainted). People often asked me where I found the willpower and courage to act as I did at such a young age. My answer, then and now, has always been the same: from God, the original and only source of all strength and confidence. Even at that young age, I was somehow blessed with this awareness.
With this mindset, I began living as a young monk in a monastery environment, immersing myself in yoga philosophy, meditation practices, and the accompanying lifestyle. At the time, it felt perfectly natural, but looking back now, I admit it was quite unusual.
Even before I reached my teenage years, I began visiting schools to share my understanding of yoga and meditation. One offshoot of this was that I became a natural public speaker—an unusual skill for a child, but that’s just how things unfolded. That skill has served me well over the years.
Taekwondo: Building Character and Confidence
As a teenager, I became a prominent Taekwondo instructor in my home country, the Philippines. For me, it wasn’t just a physical practice; it was also a way to build character. I genuinely tried to share these insights with my students. Teaching also honed my ability to interact with people on a personal level and built my confidence in sharing experiences.
Since then, I’ve continued living a committed yoga lifestyle, striving to cultivate truthfulness, compassion, cleanliness (both physical and character-related), and austerity (the willingness to accept inconvenience or hardship to better understand my relationship with the Eternal and His emanations). For a long time, this was a private journey. However, since these practices have been at the core of my personal and professional life, shaping who I am today, I’ve decided to open up. I hope those I coach or interact with might see the value I’ve found in living a thoughtful, introspective, and principled life—and perhaps choose to apply some of it to their own lives.
Looking Ahead: The MLM Connection
In the next article, I’ll share how this journey led me to discover MLM, how I overcame my misconceptions about it, and how it transformed my life both spiritually and financially.
